God’s gift of grace: (1) helps us to overcome sin and live with God, (2) enables us to be closely united to the Blessed Trinity through the Theological Virtues, and (3) helps us to live as adopted children of God.

1. God’s gift of grace (especially actual grace) helps us to overcome sin and live with God.

The grace we receive through the Holy Spirit gives us the strength to make the sacrifices necessary to avoid everything that would lead us to sin. With God’s help we can conquer our desire to do what is against God’s commandments.

2. God’s gift of grace (especially sanctifying grace) enables us to be closely united to the Blessed Trinity through the Theological Virtues.

St. Paul reminds us that we are the temple of God: “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).

The Holy Spirit was sent in order that He might make the Church holy. Through Him the Father gives supernatural life to men who are willing to give up sin, because He is the Spirit of life. United in Jesus as His followers, we are led by the Holy Spirit in our journey to the Kingdom of our heavenly Father. He helps us to fulfill our duties. He prompts us to strive for what is good. He encourages us to pray. His grace unites us to the Most Holy Trinity by the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, especially charity.

3. God’s gift of grace helps us to live as adopted children of God.

In Baptism, we became the children of God. At that time, we received the new life of grace. As St. Paul says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
