What special gifts did God give to Adam and Eve?

AFC Team

One special gift God gave Adam and Eve at their creation was original holiness and justice. Original justice consisted in the basic supernatural gifts of sanctifying grace, the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the infused virtues, especially the theological and cardinal virtues.

God also gave Adam and Eve the preternatural gifts, namely
capacities and powers above and beyond the powers of created human nature, but not beyond the powers of angelic nature. The preternatural gifts include infused knowledge, freedom from concupiscence (the tendency toward sin and the disorder of our emotions as a result of original sin), and bodily immortality. These gifts gave Adam and Eve strength of will and control of their senses and emotions, as well as freedom from suffering and death.

In His plan, God established His original covenant with Adam and Eve. If they would obey His command to increase and multiply, to fill the earth and subdue it, and especially His command forbidding them to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they would never die. After their life on earth had ended, they would receive a new kind of life because of their union with God. God’s love would flow into their souls through sanctifying grace, and they would know God as He is, face to face.
